Tom Clark ( DJ & Producer, Berlin)

Interview

You travel a lot, you spin all over the world. Which places have fascinated you the most? Where have you encountered a special scene for minimal electronic music?

I think lately the best parties have been in Eastern Europe but also in Central and South America. Cities like Budapest, Bukarest, Odessa or Sofia are on the upswing. Latin and South American countries have vital scenes, actually a lot of new productions have lately come from Argentina, Chile and Mexico.

What is the best Club at the moment?
I would say still the Panorama Bar / Berghain in Berlin. Nothing comes close to it.

Is the Club scene still as intensive as 10 or 15 years ago? What has changed? Is there anything you miss from the old Berlin days of Techno?
I am under the impression that it has become even more intensive here. With new emerging clubs like the “Bar25” or “Wilde Renate” the concept of after-hour parties are experiencing a new phase. The underground scene is larger than ever. Just look at the numerous illegal open air parties that took place this summer. I don’t miss the old times. I think every epoch has its distinct characteristics and it is up to you what you make out of it.

You still release mp3s and Vinyl? Is Vinyl still selling or is the market stagnating?
Vinyl Sales are more and more declining. In the near future Labels will probably only produce small editions of a vinyl release in order to maintain a certain image. On the other hand mp3 sales are increasing. Personally I prefer to spin with Vinyl and I hope Vinyl will survive.

What about the beer belly? How do you stay fit?
At the moment lawn-mowing and during the weekend beer coaster pilling and record case lugging.

What do you expect from us?
…maybe a T that adjusts itself automatically to the size of the beer belly.
